9 awesome websites for learning lighting

There are hundreds of online resources for learning lighting, and if you’re just starting out then it can be overwhelming. Today I’ve compiled my favourite websites, which you can see after the jump.
1. Strobist
You’ve probably already been there so there’s not much more to say about this site. The Lighting 101 and 102 pages are packed with information about every aspect of off-camera flash.
2. Tangents by Neil van Niekerk
Another outstanding resource for flash photography, Neil’s site concentrates primarily on bounce flash technique for weddings but also has detailed information on portraits with off-camera flash.
3. Scott Kelby’s Photoshop Insider
Scott’s site actually has more posts about photography and lighting than it does about Photoshop. Loads of examples and walkthroughs for all kinds of shoots, ranging from fashion to extreme sports.
This site will give you a few good ideas if you are looking to kill some hours on a lazy weekend. The DIY strip box is particularly cool and inexpensive to boot.
This site is full of advice for aspiring photographers and deals with the business aspect of wedding photography in great depth. Some very useful information.
6. Four Fundamentals of Flash Photography
This is a site that is primarily concerned with how to scan documents and images properly, but also covers some of the more geeky elements of flash photography including the inverse square law in great depth. Well worth a read.
A site which deals with creativity with an emphasis on lighting technique.
A regularly updated blog which can be a great source for inspiration.
An excellent site for information on concert photography and band portraiture. Also contains information on how to build a great beauty dish for your flash guns.
If you have any suggestions for other sites, hit me up in the comments!
